There’s something incredibly powerful about giving someone the time, space, and support to bring an idea to life, especially when it’s something they never thought they could achieve. My one-to-one, five-day course is designed to do exactly that: take a spark of inspiration and turn it into a finished piece, crafted with skill, confidence, and pride.

So how do you go from a simple idea to a finished, handcrafted piece in just five days?​

It all Starts with an Idea

Every project begins the same way - with a message.
A student reaches out, often with an idea they’ve been holding onto for a while. Sometimes it’s clear and fully formed; other times it’s just a rough concept or a feeling of “I’d love to make something, but I’m not sure what.”
From there, we begin a conversation.

How do you turn an idea into a realistic project?
​It is all about grounding that idea in reality, without losing the excitement behind it.
Together, we explore:

• What can realistically be achieved in five days
• Whether the project needs simplifying or adapting
• If extending the course length would better suit their goals
• Or if they’d prefer me to prepare elements in advance to make the build manageable

​For some, the best route is to choose from one of my pre-existing designs, projects I know can be completed to a high standard within the timeframe. For others, it’s about adapting their own vision into something achievable without compromising the essence of what they want to create.
This stage is collaborative, honest, and always focused on setting the student up for success.

Planning the Experience

How is a five-day creative course planned? ​​Once the project is agreed, we confirm the course length and dates. This is guided entirely by the scope of the work and the student’s availability.
With a clear plan in place, the real preparation begins - on my side.

Behind the Scenes Preparation

​Before the student even arrives, I create a detailed cutting list based on the final design. Every component is carefully measured, planned, and prepared.
I then cut all parts of the project to a stage where they are ready to be worked using traditional hand tools.
This is a crucial part of the process.
It means that during the five days, the focus stays exactly where it should be:

• Learning skills
• Building confidence
• Enjoying the craft
• Creating something beautiful

Rather than getting stuck in time-consuming preparation, the student steps straight into the making process.
